Potatoes, Sugar and Petrol Grow in Price Faster for Six Months in Belarus

National Statistics Committee of Belarus issued information on price changes in July 2010. Over the first half of the year, foodstuffs grew in price by an average of 5.1%, in the country, non-food products by 3.8%. Record holder on price growth is potatoes, becoming more expensive by 19.8% last month, and over the first half of this year the product went up by 56.7%.

Over the first six months of 2010, other foodstuffs prices rose more for sugar — by 27.8%. Fruit went up by 10%, milk, butter, pastry and tea — by 7%. A little added in its value: cereals (5.9%), cheese (5.8%), meat and poultry (4.4%), alcohol (3.8%). Bread become more expensive by 2.3%.

In the first half of the year, only fruit became much cheaper among foodstuffs. Their cost decreased by 36.9%. There also fell prices for macaroni (6.6%) and wheat flour (0.2%).

Petrol’s growth in price is most notable among non-food products — 17% over six months

Pen and ink  grew by 9.5%, medicines — by 6.4%, cosmetics and perfumes — by 4%, textiles — by 3.6%, the dishes — by 3.2%, household appliances — by 2.5%. Footwear, watches, carpets’ price did not practically change.

In the first half of they year, the largest price growth among paid services to the population is recorded in urban transportation — by 19.1%. Only air transport services became significantly cheaper — by 4.4%.
