After a single session on the Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange on December 28, the dollar fx rate increased by Br20 and amounted to Br8.380. The euro also grew by Br20 to Br10.950. But the Russian ruble fell by Br4 and amounted to Br265.
The current dollar appreciation has cut short a three-week strengthening of the Belarusian ruble.
As Telegraf previously reported, the National Bank assures that in 2012, there will be no sharp fluctuations of the ruble in Belarus. As noted by the head of the main monetary policy and economic analysis of the National Bank, Sergei Kalechits, thanks to improving the trade balance of payments in the second half of 2011, "the current rate is fairly stable and the national currency is strengthening."
According to the head of the National Bank, Nadezhda Ermakova, the dollar rate will amount to Br8-8.5 thousand in the first quarter of 2012. At the same time the head of the National Bank called too pessimistic her previous statements with regard to the dollar rate.
