Belarus to Start Oil Production in Iran in October

In October 2010, the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, to make an official visit to Iran. It is planned that during this visit there will be commissioned Jofeir oil field with the participation of the presidents of the two countries. It was reported by Iranian Ambassador to Belarus, Abdullah Husseini.

Belarusian-Iranian contract to develop this oil field was signed in 2007 by Belarusneft and National Iranian Oil Company. In 2009, the parties established a joint company Belpars Corporation to implement the contract, Iranian news agency FARS informs.

According to experts’ calculations, oil reserves of Jofeir are about 2.1 billion barrels. 95% of it is heavy oil, 5% — light crude oil.

Moreover, Iranian Ambassador to Belarus also informed that during the visit Alexander Lukashenko would discuss with Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, further development of cooperation between the two countries in trade, engineering, industrial and energy spheres.
