The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergei Lavrov again called on the Belarusian authorities to release all the detainees and prisoners on the "case of December 19." "What happened after the election was totally unnecessary and unacceptable. We call upon the release of the presidential candidates, journalists, human rights defenders, as well as two of our citizens, who have not yet charged with any crime," said the Russian minister.

According to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, there are sometimes excesses in Russia as well. «But it does not mean we should shut our eyes to what is happening in neighboring countries. We are fighting with our excesses, and we want our brotherly neighboring country to do it as well,» «RIA Novosti» quotes Sergei Lavrov.

As Telegraf previously reported, the investigating authorities of Belarus refused to cease criminal proceedings against the Russian Ivan Gaponov and Artem Breus, prosecuted on the case of December 19. However the Russian detainees got their charges changed.

Meanwhile, Russian President Dmitri Medvedev showed dissatisfaction with the position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia at the Council on Civil Society and Human Rights, held in Ekaterinburg on February 1.
