Reactor system for nuclear plant is modern equipment with "good potential for safety and reliability." This has been stated by Director of the Department of Nuclear Energy Department of Energy Nikolai Hrusha. According to him, this is enough to eliminate accidents at a power plant, such as at the Japanese "Fukushima-1" NPP.

He said that the NPP-2006 project, approved for the construction in Belarus, has been developed by St. Petersburg Research and Design Institute «AEP.» Nikolai Hrusha believes that this project has enormous advantages over «Fukushima-1» project, created in the 60’s. «This is an evolutionary project,» said the director of the department, BelTA.

However, he has remarked, the specialists of the Russian company Rosatom are currently analyzing the reasons for accidents at the nuclear power plants in Japan and are ready to make the necessary changes to the draft of the Belarusian nuclear station.

Belarusian NPP to Pay off in 20 Years

According to preliminary calculations, the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant in Astravets will pay for itself in about 20 years, said Nikolai Hrusha. He has noted that this term is normal for capital-intensive facilities in the energy field.

As Nikolai Hrusha says, the cost of electricity, planned to receive at the nuclear power plant, will be two to three times lower than when using the combined gas-and-steam cycle and coal-fired stations in similar circumstances. These data were obtained from the results of the calculations for the project efficiency, taking into account the cost of NPP construction and its infrastructure facilities, reported the spokesman for Ministry of Energy in the online-conference,.

Director of the Department of Nuclear Energy has noted that the effectiveness of the NPP construction project was considered under the development of the investment justification. The basic data for calculations have been taken according to the object — an analogue of Leningrad NPP-2.

As Telegraf previously reported, April 21, Alexander Lukashenko said he would build «a vital nuclear power,» «whatever the cost.» «Belarusian nuclear power plant is the cheapest in the world,» he said.
