240 Protesters of Silent Solidarity Detained all over Belarus — Video

According to preliminary data of the Human Rights Centre "Viasna," more than 240 people were detained in various cities in Belarus for participation in the action of silent solidarity in the evening June 15. Currently, the organization lawyers are trying to specify the number of detainees and whether they will be judged.

According to the currently available data, 18 people were detained in Minsk, Brest — 11, Vitsebsk — 20, Hrodna — 22, Homel — 5. People were also arrested in Barysau (27 people), Baranavichy (3), Salihorsk (19), Slutsk (6). Two persons were arrested in Zhodina and Maladechna, reported in the human rights center «Viasna.»

As Telegraf reported, according to the Minsk city executive committee, about 500 people went out onto Kastrychnitskaya Square to hold silent solidarity action. 15 most active participants of an unsanctioned protest were detained, and then released without protocols drawn up.

Prior to the action the Ministry of Internal Affairs warned of possible provocations during the unauthorized activities, including the possibility of using firecrackers, fireworks, up to firearms.

There is some evidence that, in Homel, where the action involved about 180 people, two arrested — a Russian citizen, a resident of the Khabarovsk Territory, and a local resident will be prosecuted. Before the trial they were placed in temporary detention.
