3.3 Thousand People were Granted Amnesty in Belarus

In the result of the amnesty, completed on January 7, "in connection with the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, 3.3 thousand people were released in Belarus, while 8.673 inmates got their sentence reduced for a year. This was reported in the management of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus. 

17 348 persons in prison were under the Amnesty Law in total, as well as 5 041 in open prisons. Half of the prisoners’ applications for an amnesty was denied because of their violation of the established order of punishment or the lack of crime redress.

Also inmates offset Br7.5 billion, caused by their crimes. In addition, there were released about 7 thousand people, sentenced to punishment other than imprisonment or other measures of criminal liability. More than 3 thousand people of this category got their sentence reduced for a year.
