The European Union may cancel a visa regime for "Eastern Partnership" member-countries but only in case of their effective implementation of European safety standards. This was announced by the European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy, Stefan Fule, during the opening ceremony of the second European Civil Society Forum in Berlin on November 18.
As noted by the Commissioner, the contacts between the citizens of the EU and «Eastern Partnership» of the EU (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) are extremely important. «But for this matter our eastern partners are to provide the appropriate level of security control there,» Stefan Fule said, the «Narodnaya Volia» reports.
According to him, civil society should act as the lawyer of liberalization of visa regime in Europe. It can also help to introduce reforms to bring the»Eastern Partnership» member countries to European standards.
