Polish Seim Approved Candidacy of New Ambassador to Belarus

The International Commission of the Polish Seim endorsed the candidacy of 46-year-old Leszek Sherepka as the new Polish ambassador to Belarus on November 25. The candidature of Ambassador must still be approved by the Polish president Bronislaw Komorowski. The head of the diplomatic mission is expected to arrive in Minsk at the beginning of the year.

Leszek Sherepka had previously served as deputy ambassador to Ukraine and was the first secretary of the Polish Embassy in Russia, BelaPAN with reference to the Polish resource Kurier Poranny.

Earlier, the Polish media named Director of the Department of cooperation within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland Marek Zyulkovskogo as the most likely candidate for ambassador to Belarus, who had also got experience as ambassador to Ukraine.

Previous Polish ambassador to Belarus, Henryk Litwin, left Minsk in April 2010 shortly after the crash of the Polish government plane at Smolensk. At present Witold Yurash is in charge of the diplomatic mission of Poland in Belarus.
