About 54 Belarusian medical workers remain in Libya. This was stated by the press-secretary of Foreign Ministry of Belarus Andrei Savinykh. "Hospitals are not affected by collisions, so Belarusian doctors are of great demand, time will show," he said, noting that the Belarusian embassy is in constant contact with the Belarusians.

Andrei Savinykh informed that «Belavia» plane flew to Libya to take the Belarusian citizens, willing to leave the country, as well as about 30 Russians and 20 Ukrainians. «These are the citizens that wanted to return home,» said Foreign Ministry spokesman, reported «Komsomolskaya Pravda in Belarus» reported.

There are nine Belarusian doctors, willing to be evacuated from the city of Ghadames, which is 700 kilometers away from Tripoli on the border with Tunisia and Algeria.

As Telegraf previously reported, mass protests, demanding the resignation of Muammar Qaddafi, have been going on in Libya since February 15, gradually escalating into civil war. The Libyan leader has repeatedly refused to leave the country and the protestors, in his opinion, deserve the death penalty. The UN Security Council imposed sanctions against the regime of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi on February 26, having deprived him, his family and a few companions of leaving the country.
