Some tension in relations between Belarus and Russia will go down in some time, as friendly countries always remain to be friends. Nevertheless, Armenia can be a mediator in improving relations between the countries. It was reported by a member of Armenia-Belarus inter-parliamentary committee, Orinats Yerkir MP, Hovhannes Margaryan.

«Armenia used intermediaries’ services when solving some issues, and may contribute to the deepening of relations between the countries, who have been friends for centuries, itself», the MP said, IA REGNUM-Belarus informs.

One more MP, a member of Armenia-Belarus inter-parliamentary committee, Vardan Khachatryan, also expressed his opinion on the possibility of a meeting between the heads of Belarus and Russia in Yerevan before the start of the CSTO summit.

According to him, the crisis in relations between the two countries has lasted too long, and «any contacts provide an opportunity to overcome the misunderstanding, smooth over all contradictions in relations between the parties». «I am not going to predict the format of these negotiations and whether they will be held at all, but I think that there will be a desire to dialogue, and it’s natural», the MP noted.

Lukashenko is not going to break with Russia, Expert opinion

Meanwhile, the president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, not to break with Russia. Such opinion was expressed by Armenian political scientist, Director of Caucasus Institute, Alexander Iskandaryan. «Belarusian leader does not have and can not have at all the intention to break with Russia. He has a goal to get something from Russia, and that presupposes not only pressure but also attempts to contact», the expert said.

According to political analyst, Belarusian-Russian relations traditionally present some kind of power struggle on the brink of breaking the rules. In his view, different crises, which contain elements of information war, are ongoing between Russia and Belarus. «Almost always these are attempts to achieve something through including information pressure, but not a desire to break with», the expert said.

Alexander Iskandaryan also suggested that during the CSTO summit in Yerevan, the president of Belarus would try to improve relations with Russian leadership. «We’ll  see if he achieves it or not», the analyst said.

As Telegraf previously reported, on August 18, the president of Belarus arrived in Yerevan on a private visit two days before the start of informal summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). More information about his visit has not yet been reported.

The CSTO summit is to be held in Yerevan on August 20-21. The leaders of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are assumed to discuss proposals for improving the system of crisis management within the organization.  The presidents are also expected to consider the situation in Kyrgyzstan and the CSTO measures for its stabilization.
