Since the beginning of this year, in the capital of Belarus the total arrears in payment of utility bills has decreased by 200 million rubles (about 66.2 thousand dollars) and amounted to 5.8 billion rubles (or 1.92 million dollars). It was reported at a press conference at City Hall by the director general of Minsk City Housing, Vladimir Reentovich.

«The number of accounts in overdue arrears is 5.6%. The majority of defaulters are late with payments for not more than three months», the director general of Minsk City Housing said.

According to Vladimir Reentovich, the housing and communal enterprises use all means allowed by law to reduce the amount of debts: disconnection of utilities — including disconnection of electrical equipment, which provides supply of electricity to apartments — and filing lawsuits into the court, Minsk-news agency informs.

The director general said that since the beginning of this year the housing and communal enterprises have filed 165 lawsuits to the court for eviction of debtor, eight of which were executed. Also, according to Vladimir Reentovich, as another measure to reduce the debt for housing services, the housing and communal officials offer to increase the fine from 0.3 to 0.5% for each day of delay in payments.
