The head of the Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria Michael Spindelegger believes that the Belarusian authorities should ensure free and fair presidential elections in the country.
«We urge the Belarusian authorities to ensure a positive climate for the pre-election period in December so that the voting could pass freely and fairly in accordance with OSCE standards,» the Austrian Minister said, RIA Novosti.
«Austria and the EU would welcome closer relations with Belarus, however, Minsk should be prepared to meet certain expectations, particularly in the field of human rights and democratic development,» Michael Spindelegger said.
