Permanent ban on the issuance of foreign currency loans to individuals, introduced by the National Bank of Belarus, will allow avoiding possible risks from the global currency market, the deputy chairman of the National Bank Sergei Dubkov stated. According to him, it will also protect citizens, receiving foreign currency loans, from the risk of their non-repayment.

«Belarusian ruble is pegged to a basket of currencies and unpredictable mutual fluctuations of foreign currency, belonging to the basket, can often lead to more expensive loans, as well as problems with their return, since the main income (salary) of the population is paid in Belarusian rubles,» AFN quotes Sergei Dubkov.

A temporary ban on the issuance of foreign currency loans to citizens, introduced by the National Bank in mid 2009, has been operating up to January 1, 2011.

As Telegraf previously reported, the National Bank of Belarus imposed a permanent ban on the issuance of foreign currency loans to individuals by its resolution № 557 of December 17. Press secretary of the main bank in the country, Anatoli Drozdov, explained that this had been done for de-dollarization of the economy, reduction of foreign exchange risks for the citizens and the banking system of Belarus.
