Belarus — Among the Press Freedom Outsiders Again

The international organization Reporters Without Borders ("RSF") published its latest annual ranking of press freedom in the world — the World Press Freedom Index 2010 (Worldwide Press Freedom Index 2010) on October 20. According to this rating, Belarus is among its outsiders.

The eighth ranking reflects information for 178 countries over the period from September 1, 2009 to September 1, 2010.

The media in Finland feels as free as possible this year, while the media in Eritrea happened to be the most limited one, as it used to be last year. Belarus ranks 154th. The Ukraine — 131st and Russia -140th.

The Nordic countries are leaders in the ranking. U.S. and Canada occupy the 20th and 21st lines in the ranking. Belarusian western neighbor — Poland is situated on 32nd position in the ranking of press freedom.

South Korea occupies 42nd place, while North Korea, Turkmenistan and Iran are the countries with bad reputation for journalists.
