Defence Ministers of Lithuania and Belarus Rasa Jukneviciene and Yuri Zhadobin signed a cooperation agreement in Vilnius and expressed hope for closer cooperation in the future. This agreement is the first of its kind document, which Belarus has signed with NATO member countries.

«This creates a legal regulatory basis for our development and further cooperation improvement. I must say that we’ve already got an experience, since 2002 we carry out regular contacts, and have been performing these contacts on a scheduled basis since 2005,» the Belarusian Defense Minister said, AFN.

But now, according to the head of the Defense Ministry, it will be made within a legal document. «This, in my opinion, will make a more dynamic movement forward in improving our relations,» Yuri Zhadobin said.

In turn, Rasa Jukneviciene called the agreement a historic step. «Life will show how far we can go. I think it’s very important to have such an intention to cooperate with the neighbors. We have many common interests, things that we probably have not yet recognized, but which will come in the future. We’ve discussed with the Minister the most important issues of cooperation. We have agreed to start moving forward by little steps,» Lithuanian Minister of Defence said.
