Belarus and Russia Abolish Oil Duty, Lukashenko

The Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said following the meeting of the Interstate Council of Eurasian Economic Community in Moscow on December 9 that Belarus and Russia would abolish oil duties since January 2011.

«We’ve lifted the customs duties on crude oil and petroleum products, supplied from Russia, as well as abolished import duties on raw materials for our oil refining companies from Russia, which is very important. We have enabled our businesses in Kazakhstan, Russia and, particularly, Belarus the freedom to compete,» Alexander Lukashenko said, BelTA.

Belarusian President also stated that the SES formation would «psychologically and even legally bring our relations into a new stage,» called the Eurasian Union by his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev, RIA «Novosti» report.

«I absolutely support this idea, and all the Belarusian people, as well as the experts and leaders, will do their best to actively work in this field. I think that six months are enough to solve numerous problems and form the Eurasian Union, which will be a very powerful union in this space,» the head of the Belarusian state commented, calling the fact of the documents’ signing of December 9 «a breakthrough in our relations.»

In turn, the Russian president noted that the single economic space would improve the life quality of citizens of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan. «Free movement of goods, services, people, as well as no customs — that’s what makes this union. In the end, this is another quality of life,» the Kremlin head stated.
