Belarus and Ukraine Switch to Payments in National Currency

Belarus and Ukraine agreed on the transition to the use of national currencies in their trade. This decision was taken yesterday in Kiev during the past session of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Ukrainian commission on trade and economic cooperation. It will allow to reduce the costs in export-import operations for both countries.

At the meeting of the intergovernmental commission of Belarus and Ukraine, there was a decision taken to establish a working group, which will develop concrete proposals to transition of accounts in national currencies.

The meeting’s participants also discussed possible participation of Kharkiv JSC Turboatom in hydro turbines supply for Polotsk, Grodno, and small Belarusian hydropower plants and turbine equipment for future nuclear plant, BelTA informs.

Within the past meeting of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Ukrainian commission, the participants also focused on the application of antidumping measures between trading entities of Belarus and Ukraine. Belarusian and Ukrainian sides noted changes for the better and liberalization of trade defense instruments’ use.

Ukraine abolished special measures against Belarusian bearings and knitted fabric. In its turn, Belarusian side has suspended the application of antidumping duties on Ukrainian caramel with the condition of voluntary price commitments by exporters.

Meeting’s participants also agreed on the preparation and signing of agreement «on regulation of Ukrainian starch syrup supplies to Belarusian market». Profile ministries of the two countries will resolve the issues of Ukrainian beer supply to Belarusian market and Belarusian fiberboards to Ukraine.

Expert working groups of Ukraine and Belarus will have to study the issue of anti-dumping restrictions’ withdrawal in Ukraine on tires manufactured in Belarus, which was also raised during the meeting of the intergovernmental commission. Ukrainian ministries will also speed up the harmonization of issues relating to sanitary standards and simplified access of Belarusian dairy products to the Ukrainian market, what was agreed during the past meeting.
