The Belarusian side agreed on the transshipment of the first trial consignment of Venezuelan oil in the amount of 80 thousand tons via Lithuanian port of Klaipeda. The relevant agreement was signed by Klaipedos nafta and Transchema, founded by Belarusian Oil Trade House and Belorusneft company.

The head of state-owned Lithuanian company, Rokas Masiulis, reported that the transshipment of the trial consignment became possible thanks to the Lithuanian side’s promise to modernize the terminal in Klaipeda, AFN informs, referring to BNS. «We are to continue negotiating they will transport more, because there are a lot of competitors — in Baltic states’ ports and in Ukraine», he said.

According to the head of Klaipedos nafta, in the future it is planned to transport about two million tons of Venezuelan oil a year through Klaipeda port, what may require considerable investment, and therefore they can not tell the time of signing one-year contract with the Belarusian side.

«Moreover, when transshipped the first batch, we’ll see how it is being transshipped, what investment we need, how much time we need to prepare. I think we’ll need investment», Rokas Masiulis said.

As Telegraf previously reported, Belarus had already begun to transport Venezuelan oil through Estonia, and on August 10, the seventh tanker with Venezuelan oil for Belarus arrived in the port of Odessa.
