Belarus' Customs Begins to Work According to New Rules

From July 6, the State Customs Committee of Belarus began to work according to the rules, established by the Customs Code of the Customs Union, but there not happened radical changes at the Customs for business entities. It was reported by Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus, Sergei Borisyuk. At the same time, individuals to feel the Customs Code entry into force.

As the representative of the Customs Committee stressed, since January this year Belarus has in fact worked according to the rules of the Customs Union, reflected in national legislation by about 70%, but now all these processes, procedures and technologies operate within the law of the CU, BelTA informs.

«In terms of the Customs Union we have been largely working from January 1, 2010, when common tariff and non-tariff regulation began to function», Sergei Borisyuk explained.

What has changed at the Customs for individuals from July 6

However, according to the deputy head of the SCC, main changes in customs clearance in connection with the entry into force of the Customs Code of the Customs Union will happen concerning import of goods in Belarus by individuals.

Thus, from July 6, there increased tariffs on import of cargo minivans to Belarus by individuals. Customs duty rates are equal to operating in accordance with common customs tariff and to increase in two to three times, comparing with the previous, depending on vehicles characteristics.

The rules of duty-free import of goods for personal use to Belarus are also changing. From now, the country’s citizens will be able to bring in Belarus up to 50 kilos of goods to 1.5 thousand euro instead of 35 kilos of goods to one thousands of euro. All the goods, imported to Belarus over the standard, will be subjected to customs duty.

At the same time the Belarusians will not be able to import duty free indivisible goods weighing over 35 kilos, including, for example, refrigerators, washing machines and other household appliances.

The norms of duty-free alcohol import in Belarus have also changed from July 6. If previously, the country’s citizens were free to take two liters of liquors and 35 kilograms of beer from abroad, then now it is allowed to import only three liters of alcohol, this rule also includes beer, RIA Novosti informs.
