Belarus is interested in possible participation in oil production in the Gambia. It was stated on August 26 by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Sergei Martynov, after signing a memorandum of understanding with the Gambian Foreign Minister, Mamadou Tangara.

Due to the fact that Belarus has very little its own minerals, the country is interested in all necessary for the industry, Sergei Martynov said. «Latest researches in the field of oil production are of our particular interest in the Gambia», Foreign Minister of Belarus added. Furthermore, Belarus offered Gambia to establish assembly productions of Belarusian machinery.

In his turn, the Gambian Minister stated that the Gambia as well as Belarus was interested in bilateral cooperation. According to Mamadou Tangara, the Gambia as well as Belarus is trying to develop by its own, because «relying on foreign experts, it is impossible to achieve stable growth».

Moreover, Mahamadou Tangara noted that the Gambia intended to develop relations with Belarus on mutually beneficial terms, and not going to «just come and ask for a loan», AFN informs.

Among other things, the Gambian Minister recommended Sergei Martynov to read less what foreign press wrote about the Gambia. «It happens very often when what they write in newspapers and what is in reality do not correspond to each other. Our president thinks that if people are happy — that is good, if not — it is necessary to take steps for further development», ForeignMinister of the Gambia explained.
