Belarus Has Got Enough Grain to Export, Sidorsky

Grain, harvested in Belarus, will be sufficient for domestic consumption and export. It was reported by the Prime Minister of Belarus, Sergei Sidorsky, during his working trip to Gomel region. The head of the government also noted that already now there received request from neighboring states for the sale of grain of quality wheat varieties.

«The gross grain harvest in Belarus this year will be somewhat lower than it was planned. The main cause for harvest shortage is a drought in the east of the country», BelTA quotes the Prime Minister.

However, Sergei Sidorsky stressed that harvested grain would be sufficient for the population’s consumption and provision of animal husbandry with forage. The yield of high quality varieties of wheat, macaroni produced of, is 200-300 thousand tons, so there will be no problems with this primary product, Sergei Sidorsky assured.

The Prime Minister noted that over past two years the government of Belarus had decided the issue of providing the population with cereals made inside the country. At present, the Republic produces necessary quantity of buckwheat, millet and other cereals.

«Potatoes yield is to be at the level of six to seven million tons, which is also sufficient to ensure people’s needs and export supplies. There will be harvested four million tons of sugar beet, sufficient quantity of vegetables», the Prime Minister said.

Sergei Sidorsky also reported that the crop of Gomel region was affected by drought most of all. For example, it was planned to receive not less than 300-400 thousand tons of corn, but fields have already dried and there almost no grains in corncobs. According to the Prime Minister, the government to examine the support to agricultural enterprises of Gomel region to provide forage for cattle, reserves for that are available.
