Belarus Has Maintained Macroeconomic Stability, Rubinov

In a period of global financial and economic crisis, Belarus managed to maintain macroeconomic stability, people's confidence and public tranquillity. It was stated on July 19 by the Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, Anatoly Rubinov, at the III World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments in Geneva.

According to the speaker, a special role in solving tasks to overcome the crisis was played by the parliament. Through its efforts, there were adopted a series of laws, aimed at liberalization of business environment, stimulation of citizens’ entrepreneurial initiative and government support of population, the Chairman of the Council of the Republic noted, BelTA informs.

«Necessary condition to maintain stability in society is to ensure close dialogue between the authorities and citizens. The mechanism of interaction «Parliament — civil society — local authorities — government — mass media» allowed us to establish an effective procedure of dialogue between people and government, providing clear systematic parliamentarians’ work with population, based on principles of responsibility and transparency», the head of the upper house of Belarusian parliament stressed in his speech.

In addition, according to Anatoly Rubinov, parliamentarians are responsible to the world community. «When making decisions, parliamentarians should always take into account the world tendencies and world experience. In this regard, it is very important to implement constructive cooperation of parliaments of all countries and special UN mission in its development. The international parliamentary community should advocate consistently for strengthening the UN role in solving global challenges of our time», the head of the CR said.

Rubinov Anatoly expressed confidence in that the Inter-Parliamentary Union, bringing together parliamentarians from 155 world countries, will facilitate multilateral parliamentary dialogue. «Its activity should be directed to develop common approaches, which would ensure peaceful and mutually beneficial development of all states and avoid the development of crises in the world», the head of the Council of the Republic said.

On July 19, Anatoly Rubinov also met with the Chairperson of the House of People of the Parliament of India, Meira Kumar, the Chairperson of the National Assembly of Bulgaria, Tsetska Tsacheva, and the chairman of the Senate of Parliament of Kazakhstan, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev. They discussed issues of activization of bilateral trade and economic and inter-parliamentary cooperation as well as coordination of positions in international forums.
