Belarus Has Not Received Any Notes on Bakiyev's Extradition, Foreign Ministry

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus at the moment has not received any notes from Kyrgyzstan about extradition of the president Kurmanbek Bakiyev located in Minsk. It was stated by Foreign Ministry spokesman, Andrei Savinykh, at a press briefing on April 22.

At the same time, the interim Kyrgyz government does not rule out the possibility of Kurmanbek Bakiyev’s extradition to his homeland, Interfax reports. «Sooner or later the question arises for sure», first deputy head of the interim government of Kyrgyzstan, Almaz Atambayev, said on Thursday. «His time will come and we’ll show him».

Answering journalists’ questions about the situation in Kyrgyzstan, a spokesman of Belarusian Foreign Ministry underlined: «We’ve faced with a serious international problem. Directions and principles of its resolution were formulated by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko. There is no doubt that this problem can be solved only in the framework of international law».

Foreign Ministry ensures safety of Belarusian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan

Ensuring of Belarusian Embassy’s safety in the Kyrgyz Republic is under control of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, Andrei Savinykh said at a press briefing in Minsk. According to the spokesman, Belarusian Foreign Ministry is working with local authorities in Bishkek, and «they provide us all possible assistance».

«The main problem, as you know, is uncontrolled destructive elements involved in riots and looting. It is important to note that this is a systemic threat not only for us but for the Kyrgyz society in general. In this regard, we also implement a range of measures aimed to ensure security of the embassy staff and their families», BelTA quotes Andrei Savinykh.

Foreign Ministry representative also said that the Ministry has no doubt about holding the next summit of the CSTO. Originally, it was planned for June 17. But a few weeks ago, there appeared a proposal to move the date on May 8. According to Andrei Savinykh, «this proposal is being considered, but we have no doubt that the summit will take place».
