Belarus invested $72 billion in the economy in 2005 — 2010, and only $20 billion in 2000 — 2005. "This is one of the characteristic features of the Belarusian socio-economic model: everything earned was neither taken out abroad nor taken away bit by bit as dividends, but was invested in our own economy and its development," Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated on December 6.

Opening IV All-Belarusian People’s Assembly, the President noted that Belarus had proved its political and economic independence  over the past 15 years. According to the president, this is shown in the constant economic growth, upgrading basic production assets of the country and well-being of its citizens, BelTA informs.

Alexander Lukashenko stressed that the annual economic development of Belarus was about 8% in 2005 — 2010. Only 12 countries can boast a higher figure. Belarus has created 185 new businesses over the past five years, while more than 320 have been radically modernized. The country has reached a volume of exported goods and services of above $25 billion a year, the production of innovative products have been increased in 4 times. «In fact, the entire model range has been updated for these five years, and not  once at some plants. This is a huge work of engineers, designers, scientists, workers and employees,» Alexander Lukashenko stressed.

The head of state recalled JSC «Belkommunmash» as an example. «This venture, which used to be a regular repair shop of trams and trolleybuses, now fully provides domestic market and produces exports goods of $22 million a year,» the president said.

«Therefore, any allegations that we are working on the old basis, «eating the Soviet legacy,» are just idle conversations, spread among the society by narrow-minded people far from real understanding of the economy,» Alexander Lukashenko said.

Belarus Maintained Sustainable Development in Harsh Environment, Lukashenko

The President stressed that Belarus had proved its ability to achieve sustainable development and national security even in the harshest environmental conditions. «The global financial crisis, unfortunately, has not bypassed Belarus. But the country hasn’t bent down, despite the enormous pressure and massive intimidation from all everywhere. We’ve prevented political and social stability from destruction; have preserved the national wealth, gone for nothing in other countries,» Alexander Lukashenko said.

The president said that Belarus managed to prevent the financial crisis thanks to the individual model of development. The country, according to Alexander Lukashenko, has recently made a huge leap forward in socio-economic development, and all the promises, given to Belarusians at III All-Belarusian People’s Assembly, ha been kept by the Government.

Belarus Should Get Rid of the Lackey-like Psychology of Dependence, Lukashenko

The Head of State emphasized that all the achievements of Belarus «is neither a gift from God and nor the result of commodity exports, but the result of hard work. At the same time Alexander Lukashenko noted the value of the real sovereignty of the country where people are free to choose the strategy of socio-economic, political and cultural development.

«No one will solve our problems and challenges — neither Moscow, nor Washington, nor Brussels.» We must resolutely get rid of flawed lackey-like psychology of dependence on someone more powerful, as well as of our own underestimated capabilities. The future of Belarus depends only on us,» Alexander Lukashenko stressed.
