Belarusian armed forces are examining the issue of purchasing air defence missile systems S-400 from Russia. "We strive to improve our weapons. Now, we are examining the issue of purchase and delivery to Belarus of different systems, including S-400", the chief of the air force and air defence force of the Armed Forces of Belarus, Major-General Igor Azarenok, said.

According to Major-General, there is a pre-contract work on some systems, the others are just being developed and studied. However, Igor Azarenok says that production capabilities of Russia to supply S-400 systems to other countries are not large enough so far, BelTA informs.

«Now, we are examining S-400, studying them. This is a modern anti-aircraft missile system, which could replace those systems we have. S-400 would give us a possibility to withstand prospective forces of air attack. So, of course, we need such complexes, another thing is that their time does not come for us», Igor Azarenok stressed.

At the last meeting of Coordinating Committee on air defence of the Council of Defence Ministers of the CIS countries, held in July, Russia expressed its willingness to supply air defence missile systems S-400 to Belarus if the Belarusian side took decision on their purchase.
