Belarus is not about to Sell Belinvestbank in Future, Prokopovich

The National Bank of Belarus continues to negotiate with investors on the point of selling Belinvestbank. This was reported by Piotr Prokopovich, the chairman of the National Bank. As he says it's still unclear whether this deal is completed before the end of 2010.

«We have no haste in this work. It’s a normal process. We are negotiating at the moment,» Piotr Prokopovich said. However, the head of the National Bank assured that Belinvestbank «has a stable and steady position and will continue this way irrespective of investors help,» BelTA.

«We are not about to sell the bank in future. It may grow in cost with time. We will take further measures to strengthen the bank and will sell it higher in price afterwards», Piotr Prokopovich added.

The chairman of the NBB stated that the financial institution of the European Union would become a strategic investor of Belinvestbank. The reason for selling Belinvestbank is not to change its name but to attract a strategic investor, which is in the top twenty of the largest world banks and is able to turn Belinvestbank into the possessor of huge financial resources, «Piotr Prokopovich declared.

According to the conditions laid down by the National Bank, a potential investor should, firstly, be from an EU country, and secondly, will have to invest billions of euros in the development of Belinvestbank. By September 1, 2010 Belinvestbank assets increased above 6.3 trillion rubles. Credit investments reached 4.89 trillion rubles. Regulatory capital’s amounted to 727 billion rubles, including collective investment fund of 382.1 billion rubles.
