Belarus accepted "with satisfaction" the apology of the UN leadership on the inconsistent allegations of the official Minsk in illegal arms sales to Ivory Coast. This was announced by the Head of Information, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Belarus Andrei Savinykh on March 3.

«We are ready to consider false accusations against the Republic of Belarus of violation of Security Council sanctions as an accidental and unintentional mistake. We also look forward to the complete exclusion of such mistakes in the future,» said the spokesman for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

«The Republic of Belarus regards the UN Security Council as a key element of the global international security system. We are ready to do everything possible for strengthening the role of this organ of the United Nations, as well as for an unconditional implementation of all its decisions,» said Andrei Savinykh.

As Telegraf previously reported, UN Deputy Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations Alain Le Roy met with Charge d’Affaires of Belarus to the UN Zoya Kollontai on March 2 and said that UN experts had not yet determined exactly the state, supplying Côte d’Ivoire with these planes.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon previously accused the Belarusian authorities of violating the arms embargo, imposed on Cote d’Ivoire in 2004. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus didn’t confirm this information. Government of the unrecognized president of Côte d’Ivoire, Laurent Gbagbo, denied information about the purported shipments of military aircraft as well.
