The State Customs Committee of Belarus does not rule out the possibility of prolongation of the existing customs duties on imported cars for individuals after July 1, 2011. This was stated by Deputy Chairman of State Customs Committee Sergei Borisiuk on January 25.

Nevertheless, as noted by Sergei Borisiuk, according to agreements within the Customs Union, a flat rate of customs duties on vehicles, imported by individuals, may be introduced since July 1, 2011, BelTA informs.

As Telegraph previously reported, the rate on car import by individuals is regulated in Belarus today in accordance with Decree № 503 of the President of Belarus. Member countries of the Customs Union signed a protocol on July 5, 2010 on the individual’s provisional withdrawal from the operation in separate customs territories of the Customs Union. According to the document, customs duties on car import by individuals will not be changed until July 1, 2011.

Meanwhile, the Russian customs duties for individuals are almost equal now to the rates for legal entities. If members of the Customs Union decide to introduce flat rates for car import, they will act in the territory of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan.
