Belarus may Start Building Nuclear Power Plant in September, Rosatom

10 February, representatives of Belarus will begin talks with the Ministry of Finance of Russia for financing the construction of nuclear power plant. As stated by Director General of the Russian state corporation Rosatom, Sergei Kirienko, the process of nuclear plant construction may begin in September 2011 provided for all necessary arrangements with the Belarusian side.

According to him, an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation between Belarus and Russia to build NPP will be signed by the end of the first quarter of 2011. The exact date will be determined in the near future, said Sergei Kirienko, IA «REGNUM-Belarus.»

At the same time, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin said that the construction schedule of the Belarusian and Baltic (Kaliningrad region of Russia) NPP should be adjusted for the consumption of the Russian enclave. He also noted the importance of electricity selling in this regard. At the same time, as reported by the deputy head of Rosatom, Alexander Lokshin, the company has no problems with Belarus in electricity supplies.

According to Telegraf, Belarusian and Russian sides are planning to sign a loan agreement for the construction of Astravets nuclear power plant by the summer of 2011. This was stated by Sergei Kirienko on January 25.
