Belarus Ranks 2nd in Inflation in Europe

Belarus ranked 2nd in terms of inflation among the European countries in January-September 2010. This is proved by the data of the Russian Federal State Statistics Service (RFSSS), made on the basis of the Eurostat publications, national statistics services and the Internet data in accordance with the requirements of the Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS) of the International Monetary Fund. 

According to the data, inflation in Belarus amounted to 6.8% in January — September 2010. Only Ukraine is ahead of Belarus with 7.4% inflation over the first nine months of the year.

The level of inflation is lower in all the neighboring countries. In Russia, consumer prices rose by 6.2%, in Lithuania — 2.5%, Poland — 2%, in Latvia — on 1.7%, AFN reports.

The inflation level averaged at 1.5% for EU countries in the beginning of the year, while it totaled 0.2% in September.

The greatest increase in consumer prices among the foreign countries, considered by RFSSS, was fixed in the Ukraine (by 2.9%), Greece (1.9%), Belarus (1.6%) in September 2010 compared with August 2010.
