Belarus Ranks the Fifth on Inflation Rate in Europe

According to statistics for January-July of 2010, Belarus ranks the fifth in terms of prices growth among European countries. From the beginning of the year, inflation in Belarus amounted to 4.4%, but in Europe it was behind Malta (5.5%), Romania (5.4%), Russia (4.8%) and Kazakhstan (4.6%). Such data is presented by the Federal State Statistics Service of Russia

This information was prepared basing on publications of Eurostat, national statistics services and data available in Internet in accordance with the requirements of the Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS) of the IMF, reported in Rosstat.

In July, among  foreign countries examined by Rosstat, the greatest increase in consumer prices compared to the previous month was recorded in Romania (2.6%), Malta (0.6%), Bulgaria, and Canada (0.5%); for the period from the beginning of the year — Malta (5.5%), Romania (5.4%) and Kazakhstan (4.6%), AFN informs. Inflation in Belarus was only 0.3% in July.

At the same time, in many European countries there were observed a marked decrease in consumer prices compared to the previous month. Thus, consumer prices in Belgium decreased by 1.8% in average this month, in Italy, Cyprus, Netherlands, Slovenia, Finland, Norway — by 0.6-0.9%.

The increase in consumer prices In Russia in July 2010 was equal to 0.4%, for the period from the beginning of the year — 4.8%.

In July, food prices in Belarus increased by 0.2% compared to the previous month (in the EU countries fell by an average of 0.1%), since the beginning of the year — by 4.3% (in the EU countries — by 1.4%). In Russia, food prices increased by 0.3%, since the beginning of the year — by 5.9%.

Among the EU countries, the largest increase in consumer prices for food in July was registered in Romania (1.9%), Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Slovenia (by 0.8-1.4%). However, in some countries food prices in July of this year decreased significantly: in Poland — by 1.2%, in France — by 0.7%.

From the beginning of the year, among the EU countries the greatest increase in food prices was observed in Hungary (8.0%), Estonia, Slovakia and Latvia (5.0-5.8%). At the same time, in Bulgaria, Finland, Spain and Cyprus food products become cheaper by 0.4-2.0% in average for the period from the beginning of the year.
