President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated after the wreath-laying ceremony at the Victory Monument in Minsk on May 9 that Belarus is still open to dialogue with Europe. "If we're heard — please, we are open to this dialogue. If they do not want to hear us — well, we'll take it into account," said the President.

Alexander Lukashenko underscored that the Belarusian government is ready for any eventuality.

«We have not crossed any Rubicon, but someone is longing to cross it from the other side. Well, we’re ready for anything, although we wouldn’t like it. I would not either a hot war or any other wars. We would like it to be calm and quiet so that we could calmly and quietly raise our children, develop our economy, industry, agriculture, build homes, but not destroy it,» said the head of state.

Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that Victory Day is a holiday, «unifying both the Belarusians and the Europeans,» who actively fought against the Nazi invaders during the war.

«Not only the Soviet people were fighting and dying. They certainly played a major role, but German anti-fascists, communists fought to the death with the enemy in Germany as well. Antifascist Resistance Movement was mass in Western Europe. We felt their support, especially when we crossed the border and moved to Berlin. Liberation Army of Yugoslavia, the Polish army — they were also fighting, surely with our support, our help, otherwise it could not be, because it was difficult to fight the occupation along, but they fought,» noted the President Belarus.

Against this background, according to Alexander Lukashenko, «it sounds horrible,» when «the Belarusian issue is considered somewhere in the European Parliament, in some kind of structure.» «It shows that we have not made any conclusions from what happened in those tough times. Unfortunately, it is so,» said the Belarusian leader.
