Belarus Receives a Rush Order from Russia for 40 Thousand Tons of Potatoes

Belarusian Association of potatoes, fruits and vegetables producers Kartofelplodoovosch and Belkoopsoyuz received an emergency order for delivery of 40 thousand tons of potatoes to Russian regions. Now, there being chosen organizations with a high level of potatoes production, which can provide its large batches (at least one thousand tons for agricultural enterprise) during September-October period.

«Earlier, it was planned to export not less than 50 tons of potatoes and 20 thousand tons of vegetables in 2010-2011 season. These volumes are already contracted by agricultural enterprises, making part of the association. But due to the poor crop of potatoes and vegetable in central part of Russia there is an increased need in them today. Russian wholesale companies are ready to buy products without waiting till the off-season’s laying ends», Director General of Kartofelplodoovosch Association, Alexander Yarokhovich, said.

According to experts, the purchase of potatoes will increase in several times, BelTA informs.

«Of course, enterprises should lay in potatoes for domestic needs of Belarus first of all and store up at least 54.8 thousand tons to stabilization fund and only then give it for export. But this year all conditions are dictated by the market. Potato harvest in Belarus is to be good enough, we see free resources. There is a confidence that domestic supplies will be ensured, so we are drawing up schedules of export supplies. Dozens of trucks are already waiting for potatoes», Alexander Yarokhovich notes.

There reached agreement with the department of food resources of Moscow government for potatoes, carrots and onions supply. They plan to export 20 thousand tons of potatoes and 10 thousand tons of vegetables to Moscow. Belarusian enterprises may deliver some part of products independently, under direct contracts.

More than 30 thousand tons of potatoes and 10 thousand tons of vegetables will be sent to St. Petersburg, Murmansk, Kaliningrad, Karelia.

Along with products delivery to Russia, the Association intends to organize deliveries to Moldova, Ukraine and Tatarstan. In particular, there have already been developed and agreed issues and conditions of potatoes supply to Kherson and Crimea.
