Belarus Suggested Organizing Forum of Eastern Development

Belarus offered to organize Forum of eastern development within the "Eastern Partnership" project. Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergei Martynov noted at "Eastern Partnership" ministerial meeting in Brussels on December 13 that such a forum could become a key element to cooperation of business structures and government.

Sergei Martynov stressed the need to enhance practical cooperation in the framework of «Eastern Partnership.» This is why the Belarusian delegation offered to combine all the interested companies, associations and government agencies within the Forum of eastern development.

As reported by the Foreign Ministry, «Eastern Partnership» ministerial meeting was attended by European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, Stefan Fule, as well as the ministers of Foreign Affairs of the six partner countries and member countries of the European Union. The EU representative for foreign affairs and security policy Catherine Ashton was Chairman of the meeting.

The meeting was held to familiarize them with the current activities of the project, as well as to assess progress on «Eastern Partnership» implementation. Besides, the meeting participants discussed preparations for the summit of the Eastern Partnership» at the level of Heads of State and Heads of Government, to be held in Budapest in May 2011.

Belarusian delegation submitted proposals to prepare a list of strategic projects of «Eastern Partnership,» as well as the road map development of «Eastern Partnership» actions for the next two years.

Sergei Martynov also spoke in favor of strengthening the design component of «Eastern Partnership» multilateral cooperation, including such areas as energy security and increasing participation of third countries in projects under «Eastern Partnership» auspices.
