Belarus to Invest $6 Billion in Dairy Industry

According to the decree № 480 of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, the amount of Br17.9 trillion (more than $5,9 billion) is to be allocated in 2010-2015 to develop the dairy industry of the country. These funds are to be spent on development of milk production and milk processing factories, the document says.

Br10.1 trillion ($3,6 billion) of the amount are to be allocated to construct the dairy farms, Br3 trillion ($1 billion) to reconstruct the farms, Br3.2 trillion ($1,06 billion) to construct and renovate the facilities for young cattle, Br1,6 trillion ($0,5 billion) to construct, reconstruct and modernize the dairy plants.

The Republican program of the dairy industry development in 2010-2015 provides that as a result of allocation of Br17.9 trillion, milk production in agricultural organizations is to increase in 2015 in 1.46 times to a level of 2009 and is to amount 8.1 million tones. 7.4 million tons of raw milk are to be delivered to the processing plants.

Growth in raw milk production is planned to provide both due to increasing livestock of cows to 1.35 million, and by increasing their productivity to 6000 kg per year, that is 1.27 times more compared with 2009.

For these purposes, the document provides construction of 476 dairy farms for 342.5 thousand of cattle, reconstruction of 1256 farms to 416.3 thousand of cattle, as well as construction and renovation of 2,172 facilities for young cattle.

The decree stipulates total production capacity for processing milk to reach in 2015 8.2 million tons per year. Cheese making is to be 180 thousand tons (140 thousand tons on January 1, 2010), dried milk products — 270 tons (161 tons), milk production in terms of milk — 2000 tons (1938 thousand tons). It is also expected to implement measures for the rational use of whey (its volume in 2015 is to amount to about 2,4 million tons).

Document comes into force on the day of its official publication.
