Members of the House of Representatives of Belarusian parliament on May 26 ratified the agreement on the Collective Rapid Reaction Force of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. According to the Defense Minister, Yury Zhadobin, Belarus will provide more than two thousand people make part of the CSTO CRRF.
According to Ministry of Defense, the Belarusian side will provide to CRRF the formation of Armed Forces, special rapid response unit from the Interior Ministry, officers of Anti-Terrorism Center and a part of the KGB group «A», division of the Republican special group of Belarusian MES, BelTA informs.
«In dependence of the current situation it will be decided on the use of one or another component of the provided funds», Belarusian Minister of Defense declared. With respect to the total number, then it will be about two thousand people from Armed Forces, 80 people from the Interior Ministry, about 30 — from the MES and the same amount from KGB.
The decision on the composition, terms of deployment and use of rapid reaction troops will be made by the Collective Security Council by consensus or with the consent of the parties. Belarus signed the agreement on the CSTO collective rapid reaction force on October 15, 2009. To the date, this international document was also ratified by the Parliament of Kazakhstan.
There are no contradictions with the legislation in the agreement on CRRF, Zhadobin
Asked whether there are contradictions in the agreement on CRRF with the current Belarusian legislation in terms of country’s participation in military actions abroad, Yuri Zhadobin stressed that «there are no contradictions».
«After the law adopted, we will have a legislative framework to involve these forces and capabilities in CRRF of the CSTO. It does not mean that we will bring our units and formations elsewhere. There is an area of responsibility, correspondent agreement about the cases, when these forces and means are used and basing on what management directives», the minister said.
Moreover, the head of Defense Ministry underlined that in each case there will be developed the relevant decree of the President of Belarus, where for each joint operation, if it is realized, there will be prescribed specific conditions and procedure of participation.
