Belarus to Receive Half $1 Billion from UN

Belarus can get $490 million within the Framework of the UN assistance for the country's development for 2011-2015 years. This was announced by the head of the department on cooperation with international organizations and coordination of technical assistance of the Economy Ministry of Belarus Ivan Belchik on Thursday, October 21.

Funding for international organizations in Belarus has amounted to more than $ 250 million over the past five years, of which $145 million has been disbursed, BelTA informs.

As noted by Economy Minister Nikolai Snopkov, there’s enough recourses for the implementation of the Framework Program on Assistance in the development of Belarus for 2011-2015, «the program is based on the adequacy of resources at their reasonable and effective implementation.» According to the minister, a serious factor, confirming it, is «smart and creative people of Belarus.»

Nikolai Snopkov expressed confidence that «despite the difficult financial situation, Belarus will make every possible effort to co-finance UN projects within the program and as well as outside.»

Ministry of Economy is to be the program coordinator. Ministry will also interact with all the interested parties, collaborate with key economic agencies of the UN.

Nikolai Snopkov stressed that the program is aimed at the development of investment and innovation, business, business environment, as well as at the support of Belarus’ accession to the WTO, the implementation of international standards, social assistance, including the Chernobyl-affected areas.
