Lithuania and Belarus agreed on Venezuelan oil transit through the Klaipeda Seaport. It is expected to transport approximately 2.5 million tons of oil during the year. According to Klaipedos nafta director general Rokas Masiulis, the treaty must be signed in October 2010.

«Until the end of October our undertakings and Lithuanian Railways will sign specific agreements, according to which we’ll transit above 2.5 million tons of oil annually via the Klaipeda port to our refineries for the two year period, beginning from December,» First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko informed the Lithuanian Television, Litovskiy Kurier.

Nevertheless, Rokas Masiulis is not sure that the contract will start in 2010. As he says, the Lithuanian side insisted on a more long-term cooperation during the negotiations, while the Belarusian advocated short-term arrangement.

Belarus has already conducted a trial delivery of 80 tons of Venezuelan oil via Klaipedos nafta terminal.
