Belarus Wants to Build Gas Liquefaction Plant in Lithuania

Belarus and Lithuania can build gas liquefaction plant in Klaipeda port. "One of the directions of Belarus' energy strategy is construction of natural gas liquefaction terminal. We are working out this project with our Lithuanian colleagues", Prime Minister of Belarus, Sergei Sidorsky, stated on June 28.

According to the head of Belarusian government, there are several alternatives, however, Belarus is interested in the project exactly with Lithuanians. According to him, similar project is being prepared by the government of Lithuania, BelTA informs.

«We can unite our financial resources to construct such a plant for gas liquefaction in the port of Klaipeda and transport it through Lithuania. This is a short distance — 285 kilometers of main pipe. These issues will be discussed today (during the visit of Prime Minister of Lithuania, Andrius Kubilius, — Telegraf).Uniting our efforts, we can implement such a project», Sergei Sidorsky declared.

Belarus’ Prime Minister noted that the project is profitable in foreign currency and effective, and, moreover, it must provide alternative energy supplies to our country. «Today, we will discuss it. Perhaps, we will implement it jointly in short time», Sergei Sidorsky said.

The head of the government also reminded that Belarus had been looking for a long time for alternative ways of energy supplies. This way the issue on oil supplies from Venezuela was solved, there is an active work with Iran. «We are doing everything to develop Jofeir field this year and supply oil to Belarus», Sergei Sidorsky said.
