Economist Sergei Chaly stated that the postponement of the ratification of the Customs Code of the Customs Union and then its "secret" adoption helped Belarus to bargain better conditions. According to the expert, Belarusian authorities did the right thing by forcing Russia to make concessions.

«The suggested by Russia is an absurd thing of itself. Because a common policy concerning third countries is worked out later, what removes limitations in mutual trade. Our position was not clever, but very simple. Rather it was Russia who was cunning. And the fact that its ruse failed indicates that normal economic logic won», the economist said, European Radio for Belarus informs.

Sergei Chaly believes that the Code, adopted by the parliament of Belarus, will be good means of pressure, used by the president Alexander Lukashenko.

At the EurAsEC summit in Astana, the presidents of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan agreed to «launch» Customs Union from July 6. At the same, duties on cars for Belarus will remain unchanged at least till July 1 of next year. Furthermore, according to signed documents, Russian export duties on crude oil and petroleum products for Belarus will be canceled right after Minsk’s signing of all documents on Common Economic Space of the CU, what can happen, according to Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Igor Shuvalov, in early 2011.
