Former Ambassador of Ukraine in Minsk Roman Bezsmertnyi believes that the Belarusian authorities cause headache for themselves hindering protest actions. He stresses that even special forces were missing to disperse the silent solidarity action. "It was clear yesterday, police were not enough to cope with the public. They were wet, because the whole country came out onto the street," he said.

According to the diplomat, Belarusian citizens are «backing power into corner» by means of such rallies. «Well, being not allowed to hold flash mob by the Palace of the Republic, so they will be at all the major venues in all districts of Minsk tomorrow. Then it will spread to all areas of the voblast centers. Then at the regional centers. Let’s count how many special forces are there in the republic. And will these Special Forces be enough?» said Roman Bezsmertny.

«What was the need to push people and put up all these barrier. They’ve created problems themselves and set the people against,» said the diplomat.

«Yesterday I saw the guys from «riot police» at a flash mob showing where to go and where not to. How can it be? If tomorrow I wear the form with the words «riot» it means I can let you go wherever I want but not wherever you want? Did these guys realize that they have sisters, brothers, parents? That tomorrow someone will put on the form, and say: you can enter this door, but not that one. I’ll restrain myself not to call the real things,» said Roman Bezsmertnyi.

He does not consider his statements of the Belarusian authorities’ policy as harsh. «If one analyzes everything I say and compare it with the views of Bezsmertnyi as a person, as a politician, as a citizen, I will turn out to have put it mildly,» he said.

According to Telegraf, June 15, hundreds gathered in Minsk city center for the traditional event of «silent solidarity.» The participants were trying to protest without slogans in a peaceful manner against the government, which, in their opinion, cannot help the country overcome the protracted crisis.
