Head of department of Belarusian State Border Committee, Sergei Tirinov, reported that by 2012 it's planned to fully equip border areas between Belarus and Baltic countries. "Border equipment and modernization of technical facilities will give possibility to fight more effectively against drug trafficking, illegal migration and other cross-border crimes", Sergey Tirinov said.

The representative of State Border Committee believes that in these parts of Belarusian border, it is necessary to re-equip the automatic control system. «Modern technological solutions even today permit, for example, to detain, on Belarusian part of the Union State, the citizens who are wanted in national search in Russia», BelTA quotes the words of Sergei Tirinov.

Head of SBC’s department reminded that equipment of Belarusian border is provided by special program, which was accepted by border departments of Belarus and Russia. Sergei Tirinov also stated that especially in the area of the outer border of the Union State, which distance is more than 1.2 thousand kilometers, criminals often try to bring in Belarus or transit to Russia illegal goods and drugs.

«Unfortunately, cross-border criminal activity is only increasing. Therefore, the security structures have to develop new methods of fighting against it and change tactics», the representative of SBC said, adding that Belarusian border guards and members of other law enforcement agencies, only in the past year and the first three months of this year, seized 44 kilograms of various drugs at the outer border of the Union State.
