Belarusian Mass Media Needs a Strategy of Interaction, Litvina

At a roundtable "The situation in media space of Belarus on the eve of presidential campaign, realities and prospects", the head of the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ), Zhanna Litvina, reported that Belarusian mass media needed a strategy of interaction. At the same time, the head of the BAJ focused attention on that "journalists should not and must not serve politicians".

«At the moment, weekly circulation of independent social and political press is from 500 to 700 thousand copies. The number of publications has reduced by half since the last presidential campaign. 13 newspapers are squeezed out from public distribution system. 20 journalists have received an official warning from the prosecutor’s office», UCP website quotes Zhanna Litvina.

Besides Zhanna Litvina, the first phase of roundtable discussion was attended by the Chairman of Belarusian Social-Democratic Party (Hramada), Anatoly Levkovich, aspirant for the presidency from United Civil Party, Jaroslav Romanchuk, former chairman of the Supreme Council of Belarus, Mechislav Grib.

The roundtable also engaged journalists and representatives of the embassies of Ukraine, Czech Republic, USA, Hungary as well as the OSCE office in Minsk.
