Head of Information of the Belarusian National Bank Anatoli Drozdov, busted up the rumors of the coming denomination in Belarus. Commenting on the fact that the banks of Minsk have recently been lacking 10 — and 20-ruble banknotes, National Bank representative explained it by a defect of banks' management.

«You are wasting time by listening to the cashiers behind their loopholes. If you remember, in early 2009 they were telling customers of having already seen the new printed money, brought from abroad. When a certain department lacks certain notes — this is the question to the bank leadership. Let them order more. The stock is full of out-takes of any value,» Anatoli Drozdov said.

At the same time, cashiers of some banks in Minsk, including the offices of «Belarusbank» and the «Bank «Moscow-Minsk», reported that the importation of small banknotes had ceased two months ago, «Nasha Niva» reports.

«From time to time, each branch of the bank orders the new banknotes from the head office. They are brought in batches — for example, thousands of sheets of 5-thousand-rouble bonds, thousands of sheets of 100-thousand-rouble bonds. And the problem of the banknotes supply has never occurred. But there has been no reaction to our requests to bring 10-and 20-rubles notes for the past two months,» the employee of one of the «Belarusbank» offices on Masherau Avenue in Minsk told.

«Other notes are brought without delay, but these are not, and without any explanation. Cashiers are forced to either not to give customers change, or, contrary, to give more. The problem is that when the department is visited by the inspection, any shortage or a surplus of even small sums of money leads to an automatic writing the cashier’s bonus off and other penalties. Therefore it is necessary to keep in pocket some ten-rouble bonds just in case their need,» a bank clerk said.

However, according to Anatoli Drozdov, such a situation of ignoring orders is impossible.

In addition, the «Belarusbank» also believes that there are no problems with lack of small denominations. «Our offices have a certain amount of autonomy; they order the money from the branches, and the latter orders the missing notes directly. There is the problem of running out of the old notes, while the new ones do not simply exist — it’s a question to the National Bank. In any case we still have the issuer,» spokesman of «Belarusbank» said.
