Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant to Be Constructed on the NPP-2006 Project, Energy Ministry

Head of the Department of Nuclear Energy of Belarusian Ministry of Energy, Liliya Dulinets, reported that Belarusian nuclear power plant will be built on the NPP-2006 project. "According to this project, Leningradskaya NPP-2 is currently being constructed, as well as the planned construction of nuclear power plants in Voronezh and Kaliningrad", informed the representative of Ministry of Energy.

According to Liliya Dulinets, NPP-2006 is a model project of Russian nuclear power plant of a new 3 + generation with improved technical and economic performance. «Its goal is to achieve modern safety and reliability with optimized capital investment for nuclear power plant construction «, said the representative of Ministry, BelTA informs.

Liliya Dulinets reported that Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation, Rosatom, which undertakes to implement turnkey project on time, is selected «as a strategic partner during major analysis of all spectrum implementing such projects in the world».

The representative of the Department of Nuclear Energy stressed that while implementing the project they actively cooperate with IAEA, which provides consulting and expert assistance. «Thus, the agency specialists participated in the choice of the ground for nuclear plant construction, consulted when planning the integration of nuclear power plant in Belarus’ energy», Liliya Dulinets said. «Ministry of Energy, in cooperation with the IAEA, is implementing two technical cooperation projects — «Strengthening the regulatory body» and «Development of human resource capacity for nuclear energy».

The representative of Ministry of Energy recalled that the power of the Belarusian nuclear plant is about 2.4 thousand MW. Ostrovets ground in Grodno region is selected as location for future nuclear power plant. Entering the first unit is expected in 2016, the second — in 2018.
