Belarusian Outbound Tourism Three-fold Exceeded Inbound in 2010

According to the National Statistics Committee of Belarus, each arriving foreign tourist accounted for three Belarusians, traveling abroad, in 2010. For example, Belarus was visited by 120.1 thousand people in 2010 (25.8% more than in 2009). At the same time 414.7 thousand Belarusians departed on holiday abroad (31.1% more than in 2009).

83.4 thousand CIS tourists visited Belarus in 2010, i.e. 39.3% more than in 2009. Most tourists came from Russia (80.9 thousand people) and Ukraine (1.9 thousand). About 68.8% of the total number of tourists came from Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the United Kingdom and Turkey. In 2009, the share of these countries accounted for 64.6% of the total number of tourists. Foreign tourists stayed in Belarus for five days on average.

Most visited countries for Belarusians in 2010 were still Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Egypt, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Turkey and Czech Republic. These countries accounted for 90% of total outbound Belarusian tourists (1.3% more than in 2009). All in all 158.2 thousand people left for the CIS countries, while 256.6 thousand people visited other countries (33.4% and 29.7% more than in 2009). On average Belarusian tourists used to spend nine days abroad.

According to the National Statistics Committee, 783 organizations carried out tourist activities in Belarus at the end of 2010. Above 530 thousand people applied to their services during the year.
