Belarusian Schoolboy Becomes Absolute Winner of IT-Olympiad Second Year in a Row

Ninth-grade schoolboy from Gomel, Gennady Korotkevich, won the first place at the 22nd International Olympiad in Informatics, gaining 778 of 800 possible points. For the first time in the history of IT-Olympiad, Belarusian schoolboy became the absolute winner second year in a row.

This year, International Olympiad in Informatics was held in the University of Waterloo in Canada. It was attended by 300 schoolchildren from 83 countries. Belarusian team, formed by four high school students, had very decent result: all four were on the podium.

According to the chief inspector of the department of secondary education of the Ministry of Education of Belarus, Irina Kirinovich, this year, young intellectuals had to solve the tasks in quite difficult circumstances: just three weeks before the Olympiad its rules were changed, reported in BTRC.

«Nevertheless, first time in the history of International Olympiad in Informatics, Belarusian student became the absolute winner twice in a row, what, of course, shocked the world community», Irina Kirinovich said.
 
«On the second day of the competition there was just one challenge had to be resolved to win. And when I solved it I was pretty happy», shared his impressions the winner of the 22nd international Olympiad in informatics among high school students, Gennady Korotkevich.
