Detained protestors on December 19 in Minsk, considered as instigators of riots by the State Security Committee of Belarus, confessed. Aleksei Sherstov, Vitali Matsukevich and Denis Huseltsev admitted their guilt for urging people to storm the building of Government House on the day of presidential elections. Confession of young people was shown on the First National Channel on March 26.

«I was shouting the phrases: «This is our country and we are going to rule!» while Matsukevich shouted: «All Belarusians are here!» «After that, several people ran to the door of Government House and began to smash windows,» told Aleksei Sherstov.

«Our own words provoked a storm of Government House. People began to run up and smash windows. We, having fulfilled our mission, stepped aside,» said Vitali Matsukevich.

In addition to the confessions of incitement to storm Government House young people also stated that their actions were caused by the words of the former presidential candidates, who also attended the rally. According to the young people, it mainly refers to Andrei Sannikov and Nikolai Statkevich.

«They asked to go directly to Government House, thus effectively triggering its storm. We realized that we’d better be active at this point,» said Vitali Matsukevich.

«When the candidates went up the stairs, they thus provoked the assault. A few dozen people, including Statkevich, began smashing windows, trying to break into the Government House,» Denis Huseltsev confirmed the words of his friend.

The young men pleaded guilty in the fact that their actions had provoked riots, but explained that «if not for the appeals of Statkevich, none of this would have happened.»

Young people also apologized to the families of those who were somehow affected by the riots on December 19 in Minsk, including those who currently were behind bars.
