Belarusians' Deposits Exceed 6.8 Billion Dollars

Ruble and foreign currency deposits of Belarus population over the first half of this year increased by more than 2.5 trillion rubles (830.8 million dollars) or by 14%. In yearly July, they exceeded 20.7 trillion rubles (6.8 billion dollars), reported in the National Bank of Belarus.

Over past six months, deposits in national currency increased by 2.15 trillion rubles (714.5 million dollars), or by about 27%, and amounted to more than ten trillion rubles (3.3 billion dollars). Deposits in foreign currency decreased by 51 million dollars or by 1.4%, and on July 1 totaled 3.49 billion dollars. At the same time, over June they increased by 30.5 million dollars or by 0.9%, while deposits in national currency for the last month increased by about 504 billion rubles (167.4 million dollars) or by 5.2 %.

The National Bank intends to conduct «balanced interest rate policy aimed at ensuring the profitability of savings and expansion of credit resources accessibility». However, interest rates on ruble deposits still exceed as inflation rate so and yield of savings in foreign currency. For this reason, they remain attractive to the population, declared in the NBB.

Among other things, according to the current Republican legislation, individuals’ incomes from placing funds in bank deposits are not taxed, added in the National Bank.
